About this piece.
Being a model for this painter was an interesting and very enjoyable experience. The artist is a communicative person definitely with a sense of humour. The atmosphere during the sittings reminded me of washing the dishes together in the old days, an activity facilitating deeper conversation between its participants.
Amazing it was how fast the artist would transfer his observations to the cloth and amazing it was how unsatisfied he could be with the job afterwards. The first time I thought it was not me at all and each of the following sessions led to a different result. All were me, but all were focussing on different aspects of me.
The model should ask himself some questions. Who will always look the same? Do I really look like I think I do? Is it maybe that I do not look as I would like to? The process of painting in a way turned out to be a confrontation with myself and I learned from it. Thanks Alan.
